A lot of my friends and families always asked me what I actually do for living. It is very hard for me to explains what I am doing to non technical persons and most importantly, there is also involving Non Disclose-able sensitive information that stopping me from telling. I believe even Sock Peng does not know what my job is actually.
Few months back, I posted something which probably the one and only lengthy Chinese post on “中年危机 ： 裁员名单里有我的名字” . After that incidence, I have been redeployed to another department and I guess life goes on.
Many of you may curious on what I did for living as I have been traveling so often and even been relocated for a short period of time. I have always wondering if I am actually allowed to even blog on what is my job, where I am working and what project that I did before. Probably blogging on this topic may cause me to lost my job eventually. Well, since I haven’t read anything in the Company Policies that I should not do it. I can probably mention something that already considered as History.. and only touching them on the surface.
Over my 12 years career, I have been working in the Production software, Software R&D and firmware R&D for various companies. Some of the projects that I involved before I came to Penang are PowerReactor 3 and US9001 series on-line Fault Tolerant Power Supply. Working on these has made me sort of immune to high power / high voltages. Due to the impacts of 1997 economy crises that dragged for years, I have left the company and moved to Penang.
The first 2 years of my career in Penang is some how ending with a blank resume. I have involved in a newly setup company that also designing and manufacturing UPS. It is however the company went into bankruptcy at the end. With the introduction from a friend, I have joined the current employer and started a whole new career and new life. I still think I should not disclose too much on this area but all I can say is I have involved in the 86100C Infiniium DCA-J wideband oscilloscope mainframes and its family products. I have then moved on and involved with the development on Compliance Testing Softwares which run on the 80000, 90000 series oscilloscopes.
I am then further given some opportunities and involved in the development of Oscilloscopes. This is when I have the chances to experience living & working abroad for about 1.5 years. With the recent economy crises, I have to return to Penang once again to help on some other projects but in stead been identified to be “redundant” at the end as mentioned in “中年危机 ： 裁员名单里有我的名字“.
I think I have managed to built up my “Personal brand” over the years and I am happy that there are several department managers and engineers that are interested in recruiting me into their organization as soon as they are aware I am “available”. Since it is again involving some confidential non-disclose-able information. I cannot really tell what I am working on now but it is definitely something that you can find on the product portfolio.
I’m sorry if you felt cheated after reading all these that I actually still never tell what I did for living. Probably one day in the future, I will be able to actually put down what are the specific products I actually involved in and what work that I actually done in it. The day probably will come… just not sure when will it comes.
