Site Updates

Hi everyone that are visiting our new home. I think this is the time that I need to post some updates & status of the renovations of the new house and hopefully getting some suggestions, feedback, complains as well. This may named as our new house but still at the end, it is very true that it actually belongs to all of you since some of you do treated this as a place that you want to hang out everyday. We sincerely grateful and thank you for the support given so far.

Known Issues so far

1. Slow loading –

We have heard some feedback that said the pages are loading slows where both Sock Peng and myself also experience the same. After running some checking with Firebug addon with Firefox, I’m working on optimizing the website, new settings for uploaded pic and also removing the music playback + slide show on the sidebar. Hopes that improve the loading time. (It has now improved 50% on loading time compared to few days ago)

2. Frequent Network Interruption –

Both of us have experienced numerous connections failed to site as well. We understand the frustrations that a page failed to load and sometime with a white page of saying web page not found.

I have contacted our web hosting company to check on the server status but they had replied us the servers have been working fine without any interruptions / known problem. I am still working on this issue and hopefully we can find the root cause for this abnormal scenarios that the connections to the webpage have frequent problem.

3. Frequent changes of Features / Experiences –

I am very new on building up a blog page and currently doing a lot of readings, goggling, experiments on what application plug-ins can enhance the blog experiences for both the visitors and ourselves but some times, the installed plug-in just don’t work and even break the page. So, I hopes all of you can bear with me for this period when you experiences some difficulties when visiting our home. I hopes we can come to a conclusion on what we want to have with the page and it will run smoother without much interruption.

It is also very true that the only time I can spend time on maintaining, customize this page is at my evening here which is the Day time in Malaysia (Where majority of the readers are from now). so, you will probably see a lot of weird stuffs happening suddenly. Just ignore it for a while and hopefully I can resolves it soon enough when that happen.

Whats New ?

1. Lots of YoYo Monkeys for you to play with.

Do let me know if you like a particular YoYo that is not on our list. You can send us the link to the YoYO icon and we will evaluate to see if there is a needs to add it to the existing long listing (Take notes that.. the more yoyo we have, the slower the page will load each time you refresh it)

2. Customized Avatar

Gravar and OpenAvatar are supported in the comment area to shows customized Avatar. You can use your OpenID or email to register yourself in the Links I provided to upload an Avatar for yourself. you can check at the Comments for our posts that both of us using own Avatar now. (Edited : Aug 27th 10:46pm – OpenAvatar support has been removed)

3. Changed number of recent posts on mainpage

I have changed the number of recent posts to display 5 recent posts vs previously where only 3 are shown. This is also came together with the addition of Continue Reading Full Post, 继续阅读全文 » for the old postings. With this changes, we can shown more of the recent post’s summaries and you can always click on the Full link to read the full post when interested. This will also helps in reduces the loading time of the main page.

4. Added “Gallery” pages under the Banner area.

The “Gallery” menu has been added and has a multi level drop down features that you can navigates to each specific sub galleries & albums. From time to time, a post to notify new Album / Gallery are added will be posted as well.

5. GPS Tagged Photo Gallery

The newer photographs taken after April are mostly geotagged. A 640px x 480px Google Map with mini thumbnails will be shown on those Albums that contains Geotagged pictures in them. You can play with them by zooming in, out to find out where those pictures taken. You can also click on the mini thumbnail to view the larger thumbnail.

The google map is a embedded full feature map that you would see on maps.google.com where you can play with switching to various map presentation. Do take notes that switching to “Google Earth” version will required you to install the Google Earth plugin before you can play with it.

6. Changed the Albums to be displayed as Slide show by default.

The Album will be loaded with defaulted to Slide Shows in stead of thumbnails listing. It is however still switchable if you wish to browse the thumbnail in stead of sit back and enjoy the Slide shows. This can be done by clicking the “Text Link” on top of the Slide shows that said [Shows Picture List ] or [Shows as Slideshow] if you want to switch back from Picture List.

7. Changed to use LightBox effect for pictures viewing.

If you switch to [Shows Picture List] from defaulted Slide show, you will be able to click on either of the Picture and it will bring up a “Light Box” where you can navigates through each photo without refreshing / reloading the page. I am yet to figure out why it loading pretty slows and if you click on the thumbnail too soon, the lightbox effect will not trigger. If you experience this, just reload the page, wait for all the thumbnails are loaded then only click on the one of them to bring out the Lightbox viewer.

8. Added “Reply to” & “Quote” to comment reply. (Just added few minutes ago in the office during work )

Now, you can click on Reply to specific message or Quoting specific comment during your comment entry.

(Seems like it only works when i tried in the office but not working when i got home.. so, disabled)

Things to do

There are few more items that I wish to enable in this blog..something like Comment Quotes, tidy up / formatting comment area, possibilities of having summary on what new on the page since last visit and etc. I cannot promise much now since I don’t know if they can be done or any plug-ins available in the pool but I am looking into more stuffs that can make both you and ourselves more enjoying this site.
