I haven’t really been exploring on the LX3 I have after getting it since I mostly using the Aperture Priority Modes that I will use on any given camera ( Provided the camera has it ). Few days ago, I am trying to look into the Custom Settings features on the LX3 ( LX3 allows up to 4 Custom Settings to be registered by the users ) and found a good use of it for myself.

If you have read my previous post, I made myself a Light-tent out of a carton box and both Sock Peng + myself have been using it for a lot of photographs. Although it is pretty easy to write down a fix settings use for the shooting for consistency but we never done that and that resulting to a lot of different photographs output for almost every shooting.
So, with the Custom Settings feature on the LX3, the user can choose almost any normal modes on the camera and set it to your preferences and then, register them to one of the four available slot ( C1, C2-1, C2-2 or C2-3 ).
For my case, I set the camera to the followings before I register it to C1.
– Set to Manual Mode
– Taking a Custom White Balance under the lighting setup in the light tent I have
– Set to the optimum exposures that I would use ( This can change later if we still want to have different exposures without affecting the registered settings )
– Set the picture size to 3MP ( Since most photo taken in the light tent is for web posting )
– Set the Sensitivity to ISO100
– Set film mode to My Film 1 with reduced Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction

Now, every time I want to take photo with the Light Tent, I just have to switch the mode dial to C1 and start shooting and I am having consisting photograph outputs. You can see even the Picture of Wii, it will not have problem on getting the same output that would affect by the blue background. Of cause, this can be down by setting manually each time you want to take one but having just to turn the dial each time I need is pretty convenience.
Following are few pictures taken with the C1 setting that I registered.

Seriously nice information and nice photos. I learn something today /tq

There are no way a LX3 can replace a dSLR but then, LX3 can be a good point and shoot camera.
