Welcome to new home : Yes, you are looking at the new home now.

The moving went pretty smooth even there are some hiccups here and there and to you as a visitors, the move is already done. As for myself as a webmaster, there are still pretty a lot of things to do. e.g. the Domain name registrar transfer is not even started yet and I hopes that changes will not affects the operation of this website when it finally got initiated.

Wait.. you must be wondering .. there are nothing changed at all, what do I meant by https://mylovelybluesky.com has already moved ??? The same web is still noticeable exactly like the old one and you still accessing this page the same way … the same URL and nothing actually changed !!

Here are some summaries of what I have done since Friday ….

– Friday morning
– Tried to shares a post with friend in Kulim but friend could not access the page at all.
– Kept thinking of recent discussion with Sock Peng that maybe we should really moves the hosting back to Malaysia since most of our friends that visiting are from Malaysia.
– Initiated few chat sessions with Exabytes’s sales / technical supports online… made a few calls to Sock Peng to discuss if we really need to make a moves and spend another few hundred on the moving.
– Decision made to purchase a new package from Exabytes and move the hosting services over. The package we selected is EBiz Gold with 300GB transfer limits + 300GB storage limits that cost RM399 per year of service.
– Paid the amount together with extra RM8 for the Domain Management services.
– Registered for the Domain Registrar Transfer since signing up with EBiz entitled for free Domain renewal fees.

– Friday afternoon
– Planning for how to migrates the data from old server to new server
– Initial tries on multiple tools that can helps with the migrations. This included Net2Ftp, google for more information on server migrations but none of them seems working for me.
– Tried the simplest method that is downloading backup and uploading them… oh gosh.. moving a data size that is more then 1GB is killing me.

– Friday evening
– None of the migration plans work for me.. and I am stuck with 0% progress
– Read more of the online search results.. going to try out using SSH to login for another tries.
– Exabytes’ tech support granted my application for SSH login services within minutes after my ticket submission. Kudos for the fast response.
– Login to my SSH account via PUTTY client and FTP from the SSH account at Host Monster to initiates a backup file transfer. Everything seems working fine and I am pretty happy thinking that the problem has finally solved.
– OMG… the transfer of the > 1GB zip file never completed and the connection lost at about 50% transfer..
– Google for more information but it never solve my problem.. I am back to square 1.
– Oh… I haven’t eat anything since I woke up in the morning… only 1 cup of coffee and 1 pc of Tambun Biscuit… Sock Peng pack me dinner.. it was the only meal I ate on Friday.

– Friday midnight / Saturday morning
– Trying to use FileZila to download the whole html_public from my Host Monster, which is the old server. There are about 1.3GB of files to download.
– Sock Peng cook me a bowl of instant noodle.
– Configure the program to run.. by the time i went to bed.. it is already almost 3 in the morning.

– Saturday morning around 7am.. the worried I have made me woke up pretty early with only few hours rest.
– The transfer of the files seems pretty much completed with about 500 files failed to download.. reset the failure files and restart transfers for the remaining files.
– Tested the new webpage hopping that I can see some miracle.. nothing happen.
– Google for more information but seems nothing much that I can do and Sock Peng packed me some brunch.
– Went to in law’s house to do some purchases and facilities guy.. Sock Peng will probably blog about this later on what happen on Saturday… By the time we finished our thing in Perai, it is already about 1:30am when we reach home.
– Check on the file transfer. Everything seems fine on the file transfer but I still have the Blog’s database that is yet to migrates.
– It was too late and tired to continue.. my brain is not really working especially I had some Guiness at my in law’s place before I came back ( Don’t worry, Sock Peng was driving back home and not me )
– Gave up at around 2:30am.

– Sunday Morning, my body clock woke me up around 8am to start working.
– Spent the whole morning trying to migrates the blog database.
– Requested Sock Peng to stop posting anything and I did a Database backup and download to local machine.
– Tried the cPanel’s backup restore tools.. it was not working as a 64MB database are only restored to about 28MB.. I am pretty much screwed up.
– Google some more, found an Unix command that can use to restore the database. Upload the backup files to my new server space.. ran the command and voila, the 64MB is seen in the new server’s database. This is very promising.
– Looks like it is only few more step to go. Checked the Domain registrar transfer status.. there are still 0% activities.
– Decided to make a moves on changing the NameServer IP at the old hosting site to new hosting site.
– What to do next ? Tried to access the new server page using temporary IP but everything seems broke.. and nothing that I can do beside keeping my finger cross.
– Prepare myself to go to In Law’s house again as there are something that I screwed up last night which need to fix as soon as possible.. leave the house.
– Finished all the stuffs at in Law place.. including some site agenda and reach home around 11pm.
– The first thing I noted is when I loaded https://mylovelybluesky.com .. it is actually the new web on the new server. Woo Hoo.. damn happy that it does works.
– Sock Peng requested some friends to test out.. but the responses are negative, page still load very very slows.
– I replied some comments.. and then only noted.. it was switched back to the old sites again. Seems like not all DNS servers are updated yet and it is like lucky draw… something hit the new page.. some time hit the old pages.

– Monday morning
– Seems like this morning still the same, its like trying with luck.. once I get to the new page.. then some other time I get to the old page.
– What to do next ? Wait for more time for the DNS servers to update the new Name Servers pointed by our Domain name.

So.. what the improvement to expect ? Following are the 2 screen shots I manage to run when I am hooked up to both the new and old servers.

Above is the trace route for old server. Noted the top portion of the URL and the IP address : 74.220.215.78. That the old server’s IP and look at the bottom time taken for a round trip from our home at Penang to the server. It took average of 361ms for a round trip. This is part of the reason why most of our visitors having difficulty in accessing the page. Most of them do not have a good connection to the US’s server. This is actually not our problem but rather is StreamyX problem. They do not provides a good routing path from here to US for the users.

Above is the same testing ran on the new server when I managed to load up the new page. Again, take notes on the IP address of the new server. It is 110.4.40.102 and not the same with the previous one. Now take a look at the bottom, the round trip timing has reduced from 361ms to 48ms. This meant the time taken from our home PC to the server and back to us again is much shorter now. This translate to loading will be faster as well as everything are resides in Malaysia now.

You may ask now.. How do you know if you are visiting the new pages or the old pages ? The answer is very simple.. If you are reading this now.. meant you are already visiting the new pages on the new server. I have a different post posted at the old pages to tell the visitors that they are reading the old one and they need to visit us again later after DNS server refresh the routing.

What to expect.. ??

You will probably still having both luck to either ended up in the Old Sever and sometime on the New server.. this will be back to Normal after few days where all the DNS servers are updated and you will no longer able to open up the old site even you wanted to.

Again.. thanks everyone for the support on our Blog. We have decided to pour in more $$ to make our visitors happy and we hopes we didn’t wasted our efforts. I wonder when we will started to get enough sponsorship and web income to pay for the hosting fees since we are still pocket out the money so far.
